The lithe ruddy wolf stood at the top of the waterfall. Tao carefully picked his way across the stream, jumping across the deeper ends, and sticking to the rocky shallows. He placed a foot on a rock daintily, but still slipped, and managed to splash himself.
Tao gave himself a shake, gasping at the freezing cold water. He hopped across the rest of the stream, leapt onto a flat overhanging rock, and perched there, watching the water swirl past him.
Tao paused to sniff the heavy air; the fresh scent of the flowing water and mist was strong, almost obscuring all other smells. Tao sat on his ledge. What a lovely little waterfall, he though looking down at the softly roaring water below.
Tao was new to this part of the country. Over the past few days, he'd spotted several really big wolves, running through the shadows, which he'd run away from. In fact, he'd taken to traveling through open area, so he couldn't be taken by surprise by them. He was getting tired of acting like prey, but he'd never seen wolves bigger then his Mexican brethren. It was awfully scary, being in a world with bigger everythings! Bigger wolves, bigger trees, bigger waterfalls. He missed his dad more then anything at these times. Everything seemed strange with him to explain it all.
He sighed, and tried to enjoy the beautiful waterfall and find some inner peace.
